WHO AND WHERE?

The Friends of the Orcutt Library began in 1991 and was incorporated in 1995. We are a non-profit support group for the Orcutt Library Branch of the City of Santa Maria Library and are currently located in the Oak Knolls North (Long’s Drug) Shopping Center.

 Meetings are held monthly ( the second Thursday of each month) at 4:30 pm  at the Sunny Hills Estates Mobile Home Park Clubhouse,

1650 East Clark Avenue. All are welcome to attend.

The Friends raise money through

MONTHLY SATURDAY SIDEWALK SALES 

 Book & magazine sales at the Friend’s Corner in the Library

 Book Rental Program – Best Sellers

 Donations (personal, business, service organizations)

 Grants (e.g. Altrusa Club of Central Coast)

 Each year, with these funds, the Friends purchase over $7,000 in books for the Orcutt Branch. In addition, we have paid for materials, equipment, furniture and the Children’s Storytime program and other requests of the librarian as needed, most recently in the updating of medical and reference books as well as DVDs of books on tape.

In 2001, the Friends paid for the expansion of the local branch utilizing adjacent space, increasing the size of the library to over 2,800 feet!

Become an Albertsons’ Community Partner with the Friends of the Orcutt Library. A % of your purchases will be sent to the Friends.

Use the Friends ID # 49001014299 to register your partner choice. 

 Already partners with another group? That is okay. You can have four organizations as partners on your Albertsons’ card.

 G O A L S

PRIMARY GOAL:

Raise supplemental funds to continue to meet Library’s needs, including reading materials, equipment, physical improvements and facility expansion. We are currently functioning in 2,800 sq.ft. and serving a community of approximately 40,000 with projected growth of several hundred new homes within the next two years. Orcutt Branch Library processes approximately 18,000 book transactions per month including items checked out at other libraries and returned to the Orcutt branch.

 Other Goals: Increase public awareness of the library resources available at the local branch. Increase participation among all age groups. Gain public support and donated funds for a new larger, facility.

Open to all those sharing our goals.

 Dues per calendar year:

 $10- Basic  $25- Business  $50+ Sustaining Levels

 As of the end of 2006, we had 215 members!
